The Purpose of a Lucky Charm

Some things just make you feel better about life. They make you feel lucky and ready to tackle issues. Try not to correct me with logical explanations for why objects have no bearing on how life events turn out. I am well aware of the arguments you will put forth and will probably agree with you.

The point isn’t that our lucky charms turn things in our favor, but that they make us FEEL that things will go well. More than anything, it’s something that offers temporary hope and confidence, which can be priceless.

I recently completed my first semester of classes at Wharton and am now preparing for finals and case interviews. To be honest, I think I enjoy both of those things even though the time crunch can make life hard sometimes. In the midst of all the craziness, I came across a bill signed by my father and that, to me, is a good sign… my lucky charm. It’s a great story how I ended up with the bill, but more importantly, it is the reminder that my father’s well wishes are always with me.

So, regardless of how you feel right now, take the time to think of your lucky charm… it could be something completely intangible, but it serves a purpose if it puts a smile on your face and makes you feel like everything will be alright.
