Revival

The title of this post means much more to me than the revival of this blog after a long hiatus – it means revival of my writing, of my personal interests, and of the time I spent with my camera. None of these are feelings that are new to others – as humans, we frequently get occupied with different aspects of life and put our other interests on the back burner without realizing that they are a significant part of who we are and our time on this planet.

I spent a few weeks in India over the winter and part of that trip entailed spending time in the magnificent forests of Kaziranga surrounded by wildlife. I saw rhinos, wild tusker elephants, and an impressive variety of birds. I heard some tiger calls, albeit the creature evaded us on this particular trip. But there was a part of the trip that was made joyful by a young baby elephant named Joie.

Joie’s mother was rescued by some villagers and has lived with them ever since, frequenting the open areas of the Kaziranga forest to feed on tall strands of elephant grass. He, on the other hand, follows his mother never letting her out of sight even when he is temporarily distracted by eating as he walks the grasslands. His joy in his snack is something that will always remain with me. The pure joy of being with loved ones, in the arms of nature while feeding on fresh food. After all, the simple things matter most.
