The Sights & Sounds of Old Delhi

A few weeks ago, I spent a warm winter afternoon in Old Delhi walking through Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazaar, and Darya Ganj. The joy of discovering these places on foot in the company of a good friend made the day very special. In the middle of the bustle of Old Delhi where a mosque, a temple and a gurudwara peacefully reside in the same block, I was reminded of the little joys that India has to offer.

Spending majority of our time in hot and happening places of Delhi means that we never truly get to enjoy walking in the narrow streets of Old Delhi, eating fresh mango ice-cream from a street vendor in steel utensils, drinking flavored milk on a corner and being mesmerized by the smells of delicious non-vegetarian dishes of Al-Jawahar and Kareems.

It’s in the midst of this experience that I remembered the importance of making each day different. Walking around Jama Masjid, browsing through the numerous art stores, watching cars being dismantled for parts, and enjoying the unique sights and sounds that Old Delhi offered a break from the ordinary. The picture above will be a reminder of that day for the rest of my life.
